The Equestrian Edition

As a mom, the one product that I believe is hopelessly under rated – is wet wipes! Barring the obvious uses, they also double as make up removers, disposable surface cleaners, school shoe shiners and of late they have also become convenient sanitizer applicators on various surfaces in my car.

Which got me thinking on how many uses they have for horse riders at the stable yard….

1. Bit Cleaner – Forget to wash your bit after the last ride and its covered in green, dried slobber? Give it a scrub with a baby wipe – works better than a dry cloth and saves your nails.

2. Tack Cleaner – Convenient for wiping away dust and dirt – especially in those tight, hard to reach places that you can’t navigate with a sponge.

3. Freshening Up Wipe – If you, like me, are a full time working mom and part time equestrian, you will know the challenge of post ride meetings and social events. Whether you’re drenched in sweat or merely ‘glowing’ with perspiration, use a baby wipe to freshen up before venturing out in public.

4. Mane Tamer – I haven’t tested this one, but I’ve been told wet wipes are effective for flattening a run-away mane and getting static under control.

5. Coat Brightener – to remove the last bit of dust and lint that the grooming brushes just can’t seem to remove.

6. Sock Cleaner – For those with horses who have white socks, keep wet wipes on hand for a quick pre-arena clean up after the warm-up.

7. Boot Shiner – All the shine without the hassle!

8. Face Wipe – For both you and your equine. They make for a quick and easy (and cooling) face wipe to remove dust, sweat (and even tears) and are equally effective for equine nostril cleaning and eye gunk removal.

9. Pet Paw Cleaner – For the canine kids who tag along and find every mud puddle and sandy pathway. Your car upholstery will thank me!

10. Fly Spray Facial Wipes – We all know how much flies love horses’ faces but you never want to spray near their faces, which leaves you applying it by hand… the same one you then want to feed them treats with! Wet wipes serve as an ideal face wipe if you apply the spray to the wipe. An alternative is to remove them from the packaging and let them dry out, submerge them in fly spray and then place in a ziplock bag – providing fly repellent wipes at a fraction of the cost!

There are so many more uses for these little wonder-wipes. Most definitely an item to keep in the tack room and show box!
